Highlands County (FL) DARE parents and supporters were invited to the DARE Day Celebration Feb. 5, 2009 at South Florida Community College to celebrate the county’s 5th grade students’ commitment to be Drug Free and Violence Free. More than 1000 5th graders participated. Highlights: Rockin’ to the sounds of the California Toe Jam Band; a delightful performance by The Diamond Steppers; the school resource officer’s “Bad Boys” skit; award winning cheerleading squads; a dynamic lecture by Florida DARE Youth Advisory Board member Ricki Albritton; performances by 13 year-old singing virtuoso Sydney Hitt; and program participation by high school DARE role models from Sebring High School, Avon Park High School and Lake Placid High School!
